The program at a glance

Two routes, a family add-on, and no residence requirement.

The legal basis is Decree 366/2025, which amended Argentina's Citizenship Law (Ley 346), and Decree 524/2025, which set out the procedure. The commercial terms were announced by the Ministry of Economy in Paris on October 2, 2026.

Route A · Contribution

US$350,000

Direct, non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury by the main applicant.

Route B · Government bond

US$800,000

Subscription of a zero-interest government bond created for the program. Final terms (tenor, liquidity, minimum holding) pending publication.

Family members · added to the Treasury

SpouseUS$100,000
Child 18–25, single, no childrenUS$100,000
Child under 18US$25,000

A couple with two minor children: US$500,000 via Route A.

1 · Application

Filed with the Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión, a decentralized agency under the Ministry of Economy.

2 · Due diligence

Identity, background, wealth and source of funds, reviewed with input from intelligence (SIDE), the financial intelligence unit (UIF), RENAPER and the ministries of Security and Interior.

3 · Decision

The Agency issues a reasoned recommendation; the National Migration Directorate rules within 30 days of receiving it. Investment alone does not guarantee approval.

4 · After

New citizens obtain a tax ID (CUIT) with ARCA. Citizenship obtained this way does not, by itself, make you an Argentine tax resident.

Bond math

The US$800k bond is not free. Its true cost is the interest you give up.

A zero-interest bond repaid at par costs you the present value of the forgone return: cost = 800,000 × (1 − 1 / (1 + r)n). Depending on tenor and your opportunity cost of capital, Route B can be cheaper or more expensive than the US$350k contribution.

Opportunity cost (USD) 5-year bond 10-year bond 15-year bond Break-even vs US$350k
6% US$202k US$353k US$466k ≈ 9.9 years
7% US$230k US$393k US$510k ≈ 8.5 years
8% US$256k US$429k US$548k ≈ 7.5 years

Short tenor favors the bond. If the bond matures in under roughly 8–10 years, Route B costs less in present-value terms than the contribution — and you keep the principal.

But it is Argentine sovereign risk. Route B ties up US$800k in a single issuer. Credit, transferability and any secondary-market discount must be priced in before choosing it.

Terms still pending. Figures assume repayment at par in USD at maturity. We will update this analysis when the bond's official terms are published.
